Partly Facetious: what Poodle will be remembered for

"So what's this obsession with Africa and fighting poverty?"
Published May 26, 2005

"So what's this obsession with Africa and fighting poverty?"
"You referring to Poodle?"
"Yes."
"I think he wants his place in history. I mean all his economic successes have fallen by the wayside when people remember Iraq."
"So what do you reckon? This Africa thingy will not be how people remember him but Iraq."
"Absolutely."
"Poetic justice that, isn't it? And you know the irony is that no one else suffered the same fate for supporting the war in Iraq. Even Bush, the man committed to attacking Iraq against all odds, is dismissed as someone with a low IQ and an easy to manipulate personality so that the strong Vice-President convinced him about the rightness of the neo-conservative plan."
"Yes indeed."
"And the Australian guy never suffered due to the Iraq war."
"Neither did the Italian PM Berlusconi."
"Pity because Poodle did do a lot of good."
"Yes but one mistake and there you've had it."
"But it was a big mistake. I mean thousands of Iraqis died and are continuing to die, even British soldiers are dying and worst of all he fuelled an anti-Muslim sentiment within his armed forces...I mean by placing soldiers in Iraqi towns he has fuelled anti-Muslim sentiment amongst his troops. And so they may just as well vote for the far right in the next elections."
"The anti-Muslim antipathy is natural for the soldiers given that these soldiers don't know where the next suicide attacker is coming from."
"Agreed. Sometimes I wonder how Musharraf will be remembered?"
"Having the maximum number of prime ministers during one year."
"That's true."
"And also the Maulanas came up as a political force during his time."
"That was a simple case of imprecise instructions to the election officers if you know what I mean."
"Ah yes indeed. All for the national interest."
